Thrifty white-owned, chain pharmacy, albertson pharmacy, has been in business for nearly 80 years, serving the Greater Chicago community for nearly 30 years.
Its owners, Joe and Susan Alberts, have dedicated their life to serving the people of Chicago with quality, affordable health care.
The Albertons own the largest pharmacy in the United States and have been a leading employer in the Chicago area for more than 50 years.
But the pharmacy is facing a growing problem.
The pharmacy is closing its doors and will be closing all of its locations in 2018.
In 2016, a new competitor was added to the marketplace, UnitedHealth, to challenge the Albertons pharmacy.
This new competitor offered a much cheaper and better-quality pharmacy.
It also offered a better customer experience.
According to Dr. John McWhorter, president and CEO of the American Pharmacists Association (APA), the new competition is taking a $100 million hit from new drug costs.
With the Albersons closing their doors and no longer offering a pharmacy, that means there will be a significant reduction in patient visits, he said.
That means fewer pharmacies will be available to patients, meaning fewer health insurance plans and lower quality care.
The AlberTS pharmacy has been operating for nearly 40 years and serves about 13,000 patients daily.
“We’ve had an excellent relationship with our pharmacy owners over the years and they have helped us in some way, but it’s time to make the switch,” said Joe Albertt, President and CEO.
“I am so grateful for the people at the Albretsons that have made us a better pharmacy,” Susan Albertherts said.
“I know they’ve invested a lot of time and effort into their business and it’s really hard to say goodbye to our customers.
Albertsonics will continue to offer health care to all its members through a network of more than 70 locations and in its home office in Lakeview.
It will close its doors at its current location in downtown Chicago on Friday, November 13.
