WASHINGTON — Walgards plans to close 10 of its stores in the U.S. after years of declining sales.
Walgreens says it will lay off about 3,000 people.
The company says it plans to bring back some of the stores by the end of the year.
Walmart spokeswoman Heather Bousquet says the closures are part of a global restructuring.
She says Walgarts plans to hire 2,500 more people in the coming years to help meet the challenges of this new business model.
Wal-Mart has had a tough year in the retailing business.
The retailer was down more than 10% in the first quarter of this year, after a record $7.9 billion loss in the same quarter last year.
